A major hack of discount retailer Target on Black Friday resulted in the theft of credit and debit card data from over 40 million accounts. Major banks and card issuers have said they were monitoring affected customer accounts; however, customer names, credit and debit card numbers, card expiration dates and card security codes were stolen, and hackers could use this data to make unauthorized account withdrawals, purchases or card replicas. Two days after Target's disclosure, casino operator Affinity Gaming reported that it suffered a similar episode. The Las Vegas-based company said that the system it uses to process customer credit and debit card transactions was hacked.
