| The Enterprise Technology Services (ETS) Software Architect is responsible for mapping business capabilities and services to best-of-breed technology solutions, and plan solutions to support future business opportunities. The Software Architect will play a central role for the ETS Application team in defining and strategizing technology roadmap, establishing guideline and process, architecting and designing technical solutions, reviewing and managing the quality of the deliverables, leading and mentoring team members, and fostering excellent customer services. The Software Architect will also be responsible for communicating program or project status to senior and executive management, collaborating with business users, vendors and service providers. Additional responsibilities include evaluating vendor solutions, participating or leading RFI/RFP process and hiring consultant or staff. This position reports to the Application Development Manager, and collaborate with the Infrastructure and Operations Manager and other business units depending on the focus of the program or project. | |
| ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS | |
| * Provide technology blueprints, roadmaps, and optimization and migration strategies for current and future applications. * Define architectural, security standards for all application technologies. * Participate or lead in the definition, establishment, documentation, implementation, and continuous updates of Architecture policies, standard, methods and procedures. * Investigate and review tools for applicability to the overall solution. * Connect technology and concepts to financial impacts resulting in Total Cost of Operations estimates and projections, and assist in establishing preliminary project/program development estimates. * Participate in the full SDLC (RUP/Agile), including meetings, iterative development, estimations and design sessions. * Collaborate with project stakeholders in designing and implementing integrated enterprise solutions. * Serve as a point technical leader for application development teams and provide clear guidance around design, coding, testing, deploying, and supporting techniques. * Manage review process and artifacts for application development toward the goal of mitigating risks and delivering best-of-breed business solutions. * Other related duties, as assigned. | |
| QUALIFICATIONS | |
| * Expert knowledge of enterprise architecture, including J2EE, SOA, ESB, JMS. * Good knowledge of building enterprise solutions and understanding of web security vulnerabilities and solutions. * Strong understanding of architectural design patterns and their implementations * Experience with Agile and/or RUP methodologies * Expert knowledge of Spring, Strut frameworks and content management systems * Experience designing and implementing with Hibernate or another ORM / EJB3 JPA provider. * Experience working with a wide variety of vendors. * Strong judgment, oral and written communication, and leadership skills. * Ability to determine pragmatic technical solutions and drive decisions through consensus and influence change. * Ability to evaluate applications architectures to ensure appropriate use of technology components and standards while ensuring that the solution design provides adequate scalability, robustness, fault tolerance and redundancy, capacity and maintainability. * Ability to lead and troubleshoot complex tasks, such as portioning an application across tiers, establishing transaction boundaries, and selecting integration. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: * Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field is required * Minimum of 2 years of hands-on Architect experience, including Software Development, Application Architecture, and Service Oriented Architecture * Sun Certificated Enterprise Architect (SCEA) is desired |
