This Sunday, May 26, marks the 103rd running of the event, billed as The Greatest Spectacle in Racing, The Indianapolis 500. It is considered part of the Triple Crown of Motorsport, which comprises three of the most prestigious motorsports events in the world, also including the Monaco Grand Prix and the 24 Hours of Le Mans. IMS is the largest spectator sporting facility in the world with more than 250,000 permanent seats. Enjoy a ride on the Endangered Species Carousel, or on the Kombo Family Coaster then enjoy views of the zoo from a new perspective and see downtown from a seat on the Skyline Chairlift. Located just minutes outside of downtown Indianapolis, the Children’s Museum offers five floors of interactive fun for people of all ages. Visit with real archaeologists to examine treasures uncovered from various parts of the world in the National Geographic Treasures of the Earth exhibit. Step back in time to the Jurassic period and hang out with skeletal dinosaur remains in the Dinosphere exhibit. After that, take a break from the interaction to see the breathtaking 43-foot tower of blown glass Fireworks of Glass. Whether you’re looking to take a leisurely stroll, spending a day at the ballpark, discovering the vast history of the state of Indiana, or enjoying an outdoor concert, the Canal and White River State Park Cultural District is the place to visit. White River State park is home to the city’s most inspiring museums, attractions, and celebrations. Visitors can take a trip to the Eiteljorg Museum of American Indians and Western Art, the NCAA Hall of Champions, an IMAX Theater, The Indiana State Museum, catch a ball game at Victory Field, home to the Indianapolis Indians, and then end the night with an outdoor concert at the Farm Bureau Insurance Lawn at White River State Park. This past year, the Indianapolis Colts unveiled the Colts’ Canal Playspace. Colts: Lucas Oil Stadium is a state-of-the-art retractable roof multi-purpose venue which features spectacular views of the downtown Indianapolis skyline.
