About Kelly

Kelly has had the privilege of enjoying a wide variety of opportunities along her professional journey. This has been fueled by her demonstrated passion for change and ability to adapt to and learn new business solutions.

She received her BBA in Accounting from Texas Tech University which led to her first job in public accounting, where she was able to obtain her CPA license. While she had a keen interest in Taxation (rather, more on how to avoid taxes!), she wanted to learn more about businesses and expand her understanding beyond tax. Therefore, she left public accounting and ventured into helping small local companies owned by San Antonio Private Investors.

As her career passion grew, Kelly joined corporate America, where she had a series of challenging roles that perfectly married her previous experience with her passion for technology, automation, and process improvement. She was fortunate to work for a company that allowed her to move between organizations and areas of the business – Accounting, Technology, Shared Services and Operations Controller to ultimately IT VP of Systems Implementations and Program Management. Along that journey, she also acquired her PMP license.

After leaving corporate America, Kelly decided to give consulting a try, joining a firm she had come to rely on. You guessed it, Vaco! This allowed her to enjoy the work/life balance she craved with two, awesome adult children and beloved grandchildren.  After 3+ years of consulting, Kelly was ready for her next challenge, and we were thrilled to have her assume an internal role for the San Antonio team as our Director of Operations.

As Kelly says, “Life is a journey and you never know where it will take you!”.

What led you to pursue a career with a professional services firm?

I truly enjoyed the flexibility of working consulting and wanted to learn more about the back-office operations. The San Antonio Vaco team is a driving force in my joining the leadership team as Operations Director.

What is one cause or organization you are passionate about?

Children & Education – Every child should come from a loving family with the security of love, shelter and food.

We know Vaco is your dream job, but if you could do another for just one day, what would it be?

I wish I had a talent for drawing and creativity. I would love to be an interior designer or DIY guru (in my dreams!). Perhaps a close second, and slightly more realistic, would be to have my own podcast or talk show (that paid me $$ of course!).

What is the most important piece of professional/career advice you have received?

  1. Always be ready for change.
  2. You can only move up when your team is not dependent on you – open the doors for others!

What would you say are the top five benefits of working at Vaco vs. another professional services firm?

  1. The People – you must enjoy those you work with!
  2. The Culture – Fun, work hard/play hard and celebrate!
  3. More Culture – Support and responsiveness
  4. Core Values – Assume positive intent – I love this core value! With diversity of people, you have to assume positive intent!
  5. Overall Energy & Growth of the company.
