About Ashley

Ashley was a retail professional who moved into corporate recruiting. She now uses her high-volume recruiting skills gained through high-turn retail and retail corporate recruiting to help introduce top talent to the Nashville market. Outside the office, she is a wife, a daughter, an aunt (to two awesome little boys) and she loves a good workout. She recently added yoga to her routine (which is a huge shift for this HIIT enthusiast). She has an unhealthy love for chips and salsa and she’s always down for a good movie. Oh, and one more thing…she sort of loves cats.

Get to Know Ashley

If you were recruiting someone to join the Vaco team, what are three traits you would want to see in this recruit?

1. Eager: Grabs the bull by the horns and wants to jump in the crazy.

2. Fun: We spend most of the day at work and with our co-workers, so let’s make this place fun.

3. Driven: I thrive on the drive and determination of my team. We feed off each other and need that energy in the office.

What’s the secret to a great interview?

Learn to be comfortable in silence. I’m still learning this one, but just ask a question and stop. Let the candidate fill the space, and you’ll gather a LOT of information you hadn’t expected from letting them fill the quiet.

Tell us more about your professional background. What led you to pursue a career at a recruitment company?

I come from retail and helped grow a high-volume Old Navy from 66 employees up to 103. I was addicted to recruiting in that role. I then went to a corporate office setting recruiting the same roles day in and day out. I was bored. When Vaco called, I found out there was a way to do what I loved (recruiting) for MULTIPLE companies. This keeps me on my toes and always challenges me to learn more about new hiring managers/companies and their cultures.

What’s the most important piece of professional/career advice you’ve ever received?

Jessika Poirier Hatchell once told me that “If everything is going smoothly, you aren’t doing enough.” I thought she was crazy when she said it, but it’s true. The more work you put in, the more candidates you meet, the more submittals you have, the more work there is to do. Hence, there’s more chances of CRAZY happening. But crazy means things ARE happening! Sounds weird, but I’ve sworn by this since I’ve heard it. Thanks, Jess!

We know Vaco is your dream job, but if you could do another job for just one day, what would it be?

I’m obsessed with antique and vintage jewelry. So if I have the opportunity, I’d love to be a curator and seller of antique and vintage jewelry.

What’s one thing you’ve always wanted to learn?

How to speak a different language. I’m currently using Duolingo to try to learn some Spanish because I just can’t continue to only get by knowing “tequila” and “burrito”!
