As the Director of Business Operations at Vaco Nashville, Julianna works around the clock to ensure our office runs smoothly and efficiently. Outside of the office, she’s either running or eating. She enjoys the outdoors, but enjoys trying new restaurants around town a lot more. The rest of her time is spent on her back patio sipping wine.
If you were recruiting someone to join the Vaco team, what are three traits you would want to see in this recruit?
Vaco has a very unique culture which makes it harder than usual to find the perfect fit for our company. If I were looking to hire someone for our office, I would focus on finding someone who has an outgoing personality, knows the true definition of hard work, and is a great team player. It’s important for the hard-worker mentality to be evident because we work at a very fast pace and our team never stops working. It’s also really important to be a team player because that’s why we are successful – our teams are tightly knit like family, and without each other, none of us would be where we are today.
Tell us more about your professional background. What led you to pursue a career at a recruitment company?
I came to Vaco straight out of college. At the time, I was pursuing a Master’s in I/O Psychology, and Vaco allowed me to complete my degree while also working full time. With my degree, I knew I wanted to work with people. I’ve always loved getting to help others so the recruiting world seemed like the perfect fit. With Vaco specifically, I had heard great things about the employees and atmosphere of the company. As soon as I started working here (at 21 which seems so crazy now), I knew I had made the right choice.
What’s the secret to a great interview?
I’m not an expert, but I think the secret is connecting with the interviewer. Make them see who you really are and make the conversation memorable. Show them your personality, but also get to know them. It’s important for the interview to be a two-way street and for you both to leave the meeting feeling positive about one another.
What do you think is unique about the culture at Vaco compared to other staffing agencies?
You can truly be yourself at Vaco. I don’t know about other companies, but Vaco encourages authenticity. Each employee brings something different to the group and collectively, we are a really good mix of people.
What is one thing you enjoyed learning since joining Vaco?
This may make me sound nerdy, but I have loved learning to use Excel and different reporting tools. With a Psychology background, I never had to take any business classes; so, I had to teach myself upon joining Vaco. It’s amazing what you can do within Excel. I’m continuously looking for new tips and tricks to help me!
We know Vaco is your dream job, but if you could do another job for just one day, what would it be?
It would definitely be owning my own vineyard in Napa and becoming a winemaker. Chances are one in a million, but I have my hopes up already!
