Liz started her career at Vaco in 2013 as an Executive Assistant but quickly took the reins on managing all special projects and marketing initiatives. She now leads the company’s event planning and marketing in Nashville by overseeing the development and implementation of marketing strategies and the team that executes on them. She provides the vision and direction for all internal and external communications, advertising, marketing and overall branding.
If you were recruiting someone to join the Vaco team, what are three traits you would want to see in this recruit?
Personable, driven and a team player. At Vaco, we are all about building relationships, especially with our internal team. We take what we do seriously, but not ourselves—it’s important to have a good balance.
What is the most rewarding part about working for a recruiting agency?
It’s the autonomy to be creative in finding new ways to appeal to the job seeker and the employer. My team gets to know our clients and candidates on a personal level and see firsthand how Vaco has helped them in their career journey. That can be anything from finding a candidate their dream job where they have the potential to thrive or finding a client that key player on their team that truly makes all the difference in their company culture.
What characteristics and disciplines do you need to be successful in your role at a staffing firm?
Organization is key in my role at Vaco. I am a huge fan of a traditional to-do list to start my day. I think it is also having the flexibility to switch gears and prioritize the tasks at hand that may arise or take precedence with the changing market.
What’s the most important piece of professional/career advice you’ve ever received?
No matter what role you are in, give it your all. It will not go unnoticed, and good things will follow.
What do you think is unique about the culture at Vaco compared to other staffing agencies?
In terms of culture, Vaco is positively unmatched in the industry. I am able to excel and reach new career goals while maintaining a healthy work/life balance. Vaco is passionate about finding a fulfilling career path for every employee. They truly expect you to retire here.
What’s one cause or organization you are passionate about?
The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (CFF) has always been close to my heart as my cousin was diagnosed with CF at an early age. The nature of her spirit and her infectious attitude made me want to step up and get involved to help find a cure for her and others with this life-threatening disease. I serve on the board of CFF and have been very involved in their annual fundraising event, Top 30 Under 30, that recognizes young professionals who have gone above and beyond both professionally and personally in the Nashville community.
