With a background in public and industry accounting and over twelve years in recruiting in Nashville, Sandy has the industry knowledge and extensive network to help our clients find the ideal candidate and to help our candidates find the perfect position. Her time away from the office is spent catching up with family/friends, hiking with her dogs, playing tennis, or weekends away visiting her kids. If she can do all of the above at the lake, even better!
What characteristics and disciplines do you need to be successful in your role at a staffing firm?
A successful recruiter is confident and target-driven with the ability to multi-task. He/she has excellent communication skills, time management skills, approachability, and professionally persistent.
What advice would you give to someone interested in pursuing a career at a staffing agency?
Treat everyone you meet with respect (they could be a client someday). Listen well and always follow up with your candidates.
What’s the secret to a great interview?
Even if you’re nervous, don’t let it show; let your personality shine. Always start with a firm handshake and maintain eye contact. Preparation is key, so know the company and what the job entails. Have five talking points prepared, with at least two that highlight specific ways you’ve made an impact at another organization.
What’s the most important piece of professional/career advice you’ve ever received?
The best professional advice I ever received was to embrace change and never stop learning. Technology advances alone have made this essential.
We know Vaco is your dream job, but if you could do another job for just one day, what would it be?
I’ve always thought it would be so cool to be a Hollywood set designer. Something like the Hamptons house in “Something’s Gotta Give” or Meryl Streep’s home in “It’s Complicated”.
What’s one thing you’ve always wanted to learn?
I’ve always wanted to be fluent and conversational in a foreign language. My top two choices would be French and/or Italian.
