What is the most rewarding part about working for a recruiting agency?
The most rewarding part of working for a recruiting agency is the wide impact we get to have in our community. We have our finger on the pulse of companies all over town and have relationships with the top talent here as well. Connecting the two, and then watching them be successful together is the best part of our job.
What characteristics and disciplines do you need to be successful in your role at a staffing firm?
To be successful at a staffing firm, you absolutely must enjoy juggling lots of plates. Priorities shift many times a day and keeping your eye on the ball is key. That said, it takes extreme self-discipline to know what is the most valuable use of your time at that moment, and to actually do it.
What is your role at Vaco, and what do you do?
My primary role at Vaco is Business Development. Because we’ve built deep relationships and know our clients well, they call me when they need to hire so I can facilitate that process. My goal is to find the best skill set and culture match possible, very quickly, so they can keep doing what they do best. I also work with candidates who are looking to find their next dream gig, and who don’t have time to manage their own search in the marketplace.
What’s the secret to a great interview?
Be authentic. Landing the job is only a good thing for everyone if it’s truly a good match for your strengths and is a place you look forward to being at every day. Share specific examples of your skills and personality on the job, but be concise. Let them ask for more detail if they find it applicable to their need.
What do you think is unique about the culture at Vaco compared to other staffing agencies?
What makes Vaco unique to the staffing marketplace is absolutely our culture. We aim be collaborative, have fun building our business, and work together until we retire.
How would you describe the work environment at Vaco compared to other recruiting agencies?
Vaco has a “work hard, play hard” environment, and we’re granted the autonomy to know when it’s time for each. We run our desks like our own businesses; so sometimes that means we work on overdrive, and then we let ourselves blow off some steam to regroup and get ready for the next wave.
