What is the most rewarding part of being in a business development role or tech/accounting recruiter?
I truly love my job. Over the years, I’ve helped people earn more money, get a job after an unexpected layoff, find a better work environment, and shorten commute times so they can pick up their kids from school. It’s very rewarding to see them get excited about their first day.
What is your role at Vaco, and what do you do?
I am a recruiter at Vaco. I focus on helping IT professionals in the market find fulfilling and exciting jobs with local companies. I try to understand people’s career goals and pair them with opportunities that help achieve those goals.
If you were recruiting someone to join the Vaco team, what are three traits you would want to see in this recruit?
If I were recruiting for Vaco, I would look for people who are incredibly motivated, creative, and fun! This can be a demanding job at times, and without those qualities it would be difficult to succeed.
What do you think is unique about the culture at Vaco compared to other staffing agencies?
Vaco allows their employees to be creative in their roles. As a recruiter, I have the flexibility to network and interact with people in a variety of ways. I am encouraged to host user groups, attend conferences, and utilize social media to meet new people in the market. I think it stands out compared to other staffing agencies.
What is one thing you enjoyed learning since joining Vaco?
We took a class on negotiating one time as an office, and it was really interesting! Negotiating is a part of everyone’s day-to-day life, whether it’s in a work environment or in your personal life. It was a great way to learn how to compromise and find the best possible solution to a problem.
What’s one thing you’ve always wanted to learn?
I have always wanted to learn how to bake. I have absolutely no experience with baking, but I recently tried a few cake and cupcake recipes. They actually turned out okay! I’m excited to branch out and try some new desserts in the near future. Hopefully, I can avoid burning the house down in the process.
