In 1980 Robert began his career at Ernst & Young in Houston Texas. After public accounting he joined the Internal Audit department of a billion-dollar public company; with primary operations in construction, homebuilding and building products. He served as the Controller of one of their construction subsidiaries in the Washington DC area for four years.
In 1989 Robert accepted a position with SpawGlass, a Texas based commercial general contractor, and began a 30-year career with the company serving as the Chief Financial Officer for 10 years. Robert was a member of the management team that successfully purchased ownership of the company from foreign ownership, making SpawGlass an employee owned company. Consolidated revenues have grown from $100 million to over $600 million and the number of employee owners has grown from ten to approximately 400. As CFO, Robert oversaw financial reporting and forecasting, cash management and bank relations, human resources and employee benefits, information technology, risk management, surety relations, and the employee stock program.
Robert has served as President of the San Antonio Chapter of the Construction Financial Management Association, served on the Board of Directors for the San Antonio Food Bank and the North San Antonio Chamber of Commerce. He enjoys traveling, hiking and snow skiing.
