Frequently Asked Questions

You'll never have to pay for our services. Utilizing Vaco’s vast network and capabilities is free to you and everyone looking to pursue their dream career through contract, contract-to-hire or permanent roles, whether you want to work remotely, in an office or in a hybrid environment.

At Vaco, our interactions with everyone are built on relationships, not transactions. We understand that making a career change is a huge milestone. We pride ourselves on taking the time to get to know you so we can expertly fulfill your dream of working for a company that’s a match for your skill set and your culture expectations – whether you’re looking for a contract, contract-to-hire or permanent position.

Transitioning from a full-time job to a consultant is an exciting prospect for those who enjoy tackling new challenges and having more flexibility in their career. As a Vaco consultant, you will have the opportunity to take on project-based work with clients that are looking for skilled experts to help solve their biggest challenges. It’s an exciting career path that allows you to share your expertise at critical moments, all while giving you the ability to choose the projects that excite you most.

When speaking with your Vaco representative, they will ask if you’re interested in contract positions. If so, your Vaco representative will ask focused questions that cover your previous history as a consultant, your project interests, and other relevant information to find the perfect fit for your skill sets and career goals.

Yes, Vaco hosts project-scope meetings (PSMs) so consultants can meet with a client to determine if the project is the best fit for both parties.

Once you’ve connected with a Vaco recruiter, we will set up an in-person or virtual meeting to review your resume and have an in-depth conversation about your qualifications, skills, and interests. This meeting will help us understand the types of roles you want to pursue and which clients fit your desired career aspirations.  If you’re interested, we will then submit your information to the client along with a set of notes explaining how your skill set relates to a particular opportunity.

Once your information is submitted, we will work with the client on next steps in the process. Our client will review your information, and if they’re interested, they will contact Vaco to set up an interview. For every interview, your Vaco representative will prep you beforehand and debrief you afterwards, until you’ve found an opportunity that’s right for you.

The timeline for the candidate process varies and can be dependent on available opportunities, qualifications, salary expectations, and whether you are actively or passively looking to make a career switch. It is crucial for you to be specific in your wants and needs and to provide feedback to your recruiter on all potential opportunities so the recruiter can find the best match for you in a timely manner.

Every. Single. Day. And these range from on-site positions to hybrid and fully remote roles, for permanent employment or contract engagements. Our clients need highly skilled talent across a range of job types and areas of expertise, so we have a constant flow of new opportunities for our candidates to explore. Don’t worry though; your recruiter will only send you opportunities that match what you’re looking for so your inbox isn’t full of roles outside your specifications or interests.

Vaco’s team will share your desired salary with the client before every interview, but if the client asks for your desired salary, always feel free to defer the conversation to your recruiter. If you need more insight into negotiating your salary, check out our guide to conducting salary negotiations the right way.

We wish we could place every candidate that we meet, but that’s not always the case. If your skill set is not in our wheelhouse, we still do our best to assist in the job search by serving as your job market expert. We provide resume writing tips, LinkedIn profile advice, interview prep, information on the job market, and much more. Explore our suite of career tips, resume templates and more to get started.

Consultants are eligible the first day of the month following 30 days of employment (e.g., a July 15 hire is eligible on September 1).
