How would you describe recruiting agencies to a third grader?
For job seekers, finding a good job is tough. For companies, finding the right person for a job can be tough. Recruiting agencies help make things simpler. We find good candidates that companies will like, and we find good jobs that job seekers will like.
What is the most rewarding part of being a tech recruiter?
Within software engineering, many developers can be underpaid and overworked. Getting that job seeker better pay, work-life balance, and even a better team culture can legitimately change their life. When my candidates tell me their mental health or family life improved after I found them a new job, it helps remind me of why I do what I do.
What is your role at Vaco, and what do you do?
I’m a recruiter on the NERD (Nashville Engineering, Remote Division) team. Besides making fantastic acronyms, we also hire tech professionals for multiple companies. NERD’s primary focus is helping software engineers find 100% remote roles across the United States.
What do you think is unique about the culture at Vaco compared to other staffing agencies?
Because everyone in Vaco is so real and open, you get to legitimately be yourself; no stigma attached and without having any kind of fake work personality. I wasn’t sure I would ever say “I love the place I work” and “I love the team I work with”. Vaco changed that.
We know Vaco is your dream job, but if you could do another job for just one day, what would it be?
Assuming I could bring my dogs along for the adventure, I’d have to try out being on a wilderness search and rescue team up here in Colorado.
What’s one thing you’ve always wanted to learn?
I’d love to learn about strength and conditioning protocols for professional athletes. I’m not someone who follows sports, but I’m fascinated with the science behind performance improvement at that level.
