What characteristics and disciplines do you need to be successful in your role at a staffing firm?
To be successful at a staffing firm, you must be resilient. A recruiter or sales representative can do everything in their control correctly and still not be able to close a deal. You have to expect that things will not always go as planned and be able to mentally move on quickly to refocus on what is in your control.
If you were recruiting someone to join the Vaco team, what are three traits you would want to see in this recruit?
I would want to see someone who is persistent, astute, and composed.
What’s the secret to a great interview?
If you interview as if the person you are speaking to is already your new boss or co-worker, it can help calm your nerves and focus on the interaction as opposed to saying everything perfectly/robotically. Non-verbal cues and human interaction are just as important as what is conveyed verbally.
What’s the most important piece of professional/career advice you’ve ever received?
No matter what job you want in the future, it is important to focus on your current role and do it to the best of your ability. Don’t lose sight of what is right in front of you because you are too focused on what you want in the future.
How would you describe the work environment at Vaco compared to other recruiting agencies?
The work environment at Vaco is very balanced. The physical space and team mentality/interaction remind you that you are a real person in a professional environment instead of making you feel as if you are just an employee.
We know Vaco is your dream job, but if you could do another job for just one day, what would it be?
I would be a sommelier .
