Rachel is a recruiting veteran at Vaco, assisting accounting and finance professionals in their search for the next step in their career. Outside of work, Rachel stays busy with her family, which includes being a mom to three boys! When she’s not spending her retirement on travel baseball for the boys, she loves to travel and spend quality time with her family, friends and her 65-pound golden doodle!

What is the most rewarding part of being an accounting recruiter?

The most rewarding part of being a recruiter is finding and building relationships with accounting and finance professionals who are seeking to consult for a career or just for a season.  Connecting our consultants with companies in need of support is so rewarding.

What is your role at Vaco, and what do you do? 

I am the Director of Recruiting for Vaco Nashville’s Accounting & Finance contract division.  I have the privilege of being the point person for our consultants who are currently on Vaco projects and finding/identifying professionals in the Nashville market who are interested in consulting.

Tell us more about your professional background. What led you to pursue a career at a recruitment company?

I began my career as a certified public accountant (CPA).  I loved the people I worked with and the clients I served, but I always wished for more interaction with people.  I had lots of conversations with recruiters around town and was fortunate to make the move into recruiting in 2004 when Jerry, Jay, Brian and Bradley Hewett were looking to expand their Accounting and Finance recruiting team.  I left public accounting to join Vaco and am so glad I did!

What’s the most important piece of professional/career advice you’ve ever received? 

To build a career doing something you love.  A successful career will not be judged solely on dollars earned, but on lives impacted.

What do you think is unique about the culture at Vaco compared to other staffing agencies? 

We have the freedom to truly be ourselves – there is not a one-size-fits-all mentality at Vaco.

How would you describe the work environment at Vaco compared to other recruiting agencies? 

We are a company that places the highest value on relationships, not on numbers ($$$ or metrics).  At Vaco, we believe that people work with people they like and that they trust.  Here we are free to be ourselves and encouraged to build genuine, lasting relationships with our clients and candidates.
