Vaco Empowers Me to Give Back to The Community

Every day we’re pulled in a million different directions. Whether it’s by our kids needing rides to swim lessons or soccer practices or having to meet project deadlines at work that seem merely impossible – it can make you feel like you’re living in a bubble. Recently, I’ve found that a great way to pop that bubble is to give back to your community. It helps me zoom out, expand my reach outside of my personal circle, and has introduced me to a wide array of people. If you don’t believe me, here are three reasons to motivate you to leave your bubble:

It’s easier than you think.

There are thousands of nonprofits in your community and the surrounding areas. If there’s an issue you care about from animals to the homeless, there’s a nonprofit that’s working on it. Luckily, this makes it so easy to pick one to volunteer with. It doesn’t have to be a big-time commitment; you can go every day or once a month.

It’s fun and makes you feel good inside.

I know what you’re thinking, “How is vacuuming at a patient facility or cleaning animal shelters fun?” Well, for one, it’s all about finding the right fit and maintaining the right mentality. But beyond that, it’s about the people. The relationships you’ll form with both the people, animals, etc., who you’ll serve and with those you’re working alongside will keep you coming back as often as you can.

The work you’re doing is bigger than you.

We all want to make an impact; it’s an inherent part of being human. Serving allows us to dive headfirst into a problem or a cause and produce real change. The catalyst could be as small as helping a child with his homework after school and could have as great of an impact as inspiring him to become an engineer because he fell in love with math. Nothing feels better than knowing that we’re a part of something bigger than ourselves.

Working for Vaco, which emphasizes the importance of giving back, has allowed me to dip my toes in causes from the American Heart Association to United Way. Vaco believes in investing in the communities around us whether that be through volunteer work or charitable sponsorships. Don’t let personal excuses stop you from doing a quick Google search to see what kind of nonprofits you could serve with. Remember, it’s fun, easy, and allows you to create real change and leave an impact.
